The World of Children, EVS Project № 2019-1-BG01-ESC11-062185
Association Vasilica, Varna, Bulgaria, http://vasilica.org/
Like all our other projects, the World of Children is another way to influence society for the better. Our goal is to show the public that there are still children living in extreme poverty. There are still children who have never had their toys and there are still children who do not attend school. We want to show the bad side of these kids. We want to influence the community and the attitudes towards Roma children. We want to change!
The Vasilitsa Association (pronounced "Vasilitsa") was created 11 years ago to address the difficulties of our society through localized work to improve the well-being of children at risk. Working with school-age children, we focus our efforts on prevention and upbringing through informal methods so that we can provide knowledge, communication skills, confidence, and motivation to children who receive insufficient positive support and their daily environments, such as school, home, and etc. We strive to create a real-world of children that would act as a center where children can learn, be creative, and receive therapy. In the meantime, we develop the concept and work with children in different places, mainly managed by our partners (schools, NGOs, etc.) and focus on non-formal learning methods.
What is the role of an EVS volunteer in the project? We provide a long-term opportunity (up to 12 months, depending on the vacancies) for volunteers to work with children from mixed groups, including but not limited to minorities (Roma and Turkish children), children with dysfunctional families and children living in poverty. You will be able to do arts and crafts workshops, teach them languages and math, play sports, board and card games, role play, and more. Although we have certain methods that we follow, we are very committed to new ideas and encourage your country to be proactive. You have your own way of connecting with children and it is important to have an individual approach so we rely on you to be creative and organized. You are free to develop your own personal project, write articles, presentations, or any other kind of video or audio material that may be a problem for young people or any other related issues that are of benefit to the public and the organization itself (from promotion and advertising).
What are the requirements? Well, you just have to be from an EU country of 18 to 31 years old and be motivated and inspired by the problems we are dealing with. You can make a change in people's lives and improve your own skills and confidence, as well as learn some Bulgarian. We need you to have sufficient English language skills to be able to communicate openly, but we do not need to speak freely as long as we understand each other
What do we offer? The standard program package - accommodation and transportation are covered, health insurance, monthly assistance (pocket money), local support (mentor), online language training and lots of fun :)
Want to join us? Please submit your CV and provide your skype / FB so that the call can be scheduled. We want to hear what you think, what your expectations are, and answer your questions and concerns.
